Considered as the last Inka refuge which resisted per decades to the Spanish conquerors. Choquequirao (3,085 m) is situated amongst the spurs of the Salkantay Mountain Range in the Province La Convencion in the Region Cusco above the Valley of the river Rio Apurimac. The entire complex encompasses 1,800 hectares of which 30-40% is uncovered. The typical Inca terraces form the largest constructions on site.
To start the tour to Machu Picchu, you will have to spend at least one day before the tour starts in Cusco located at 1600 km. south east of Lima (Peru). From Cusco to Machu Picchu can be reached by rail (trains) and the other walking down the ancestral “Inca Trail” in two to four days, in this tour use only train service.
